Usher – Chains (ft. Nas & Bibi Bourelly)
Usher premieres a brand new song, exclusive to TIDAL, titled “Chains” featuring rap legend Nas and singer-songwriter.
Usher debuted the politically charged “Chains” via Tidal through an interactive music video dealing with topics such as police brutality and racial profiling. You can view the visual here which utilises the audience’s webcam to keep you transfixed to the powerful imagery.

The epic production on “Chains” creates an atmospheric landscape for the weighty message to thrive and resonate with the listener. Sparse and hazy on the verses before blasting into a bombastic, bass-heavy chorus, Usher delivers an emotive performance with rousing supporting vocals from Bibi Bourelly. Nas spits a ferocious verse backed by a stirring string ensemble advising “We got a problem that needs some acknowledgement”.
Usher spoke about the message behind the track: “In writing this song, I was motivated by the events involving prejudicial injustice that are still happening today. The reality is that racial bigotry diminishes the lives of too many people in our country. We have to come together as a country to solve these problems and this is one way I can contribute.”
Usher will perform the single for the first time at the upcoming Tidal X 1020 benefit concert at Barclays Center, with all of the proceeds from the single going towards a social justice organisation. Listen below:
