Sia – Reaper (Single Premiere)

With the impending release of her upcoming album, ‘This Is Acting’, Australian singer/songwriter Sia Furler drops another promotional track, the Rihanna reject ‘Reaper’.

Last year, Sia and G.O.O.D. Music mogul Kanye West performed ‘Wolves’ with Chicago rapper Vic Mensa at SNL 40 and now West repays the favour by producing and co-writing Sia’s ‘Reaper’ which, along with ‘Cheap Thrills’, was another track originally penned for Rihanna’s oft-delayed ‘ANTI’.

“You came to take me away, so close I was to heaven’s gates, but no baby, no baby not today”, Sia sways on the chorus injecting a thought-provoking tone to her vocals which Rihanna may have not been able to capture whilst West provides an upbeat, bombastic beat on ‘Reaper’ with subtle elements of the Ska genre creating quite the ambivalent vibe when paired with the melancholy lyrics.

In December, Sia told Rolling Stone of the track, “I’m not emotionally attached to it. I thought it was a fun song. I think it’s a good, fun song, but I didn’t anticipate it being on the record. But my manager really likes it so I put it on for him.”

‘This Is Acting’, Sia Furler’s upcoming seventh studio album, is now available for pre-order on iTunes along with four other tracks ‘Bird Set Free’, ‘Alive’, ‘One Million Bullets’, and ‘Cheap Thrills’ and is due for release January 29th via RCA and Sony Music.
