New: Lana Del Rey – High By The Beach

Lana Del Rey’s new single has leaked two days ahead of schedule and I couldn’t resist waiting so I gave the track a listen.

“High by the Beach” is a stark contrast to the introductory buzz that was “Honeymoon”. Whilst the title track delved into slow-burning, orchestral-pop territory with swooping strings and a vacant feeling, the new single has a much more “Born To Die” vibe with it’s hip-hop orientated beat and radio-friendly hook that makes it a fitting first single.

It’s very much still an acquired taste kind of Lana Del Rey song featuring alluring, layered vocals/harmonies and, as always, she somehow makes swearing sound angelic. Sweeping synths, electronic bleeps and trap-like drums also appear plus a distortedly spoken outro. Time will tell which direction the album will go considering the polar opposites of the first two releases thus far.

“High by the Beach” serves as the first official single off the captivating siren’s forthcoming third studio album “Honeymoon”, due next month on Interscope Records. Listen to the track below which will be available to download on iTunes come Wednesday.
