Kehlani – Gangsta [Single Premiere]

Suicide Squad and its accompanying soundtrack come out August 5th, listen to Kehlani’s contribution to the project with the new single titled ‘Gangsta’.

‘Gangsta’ premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats1 radio show. In an interview, the film’s director David Ayer noted that the track will play a significant role in the DC Comics film, “Steven Price did the score on this and he’s incredibly gifted,” he said on Beats 1. “He heard [‘Gangsta’] and felt he could do more with it and really orchestrate it and it just blends into the fabric of the film. It speaks a lot to relationships, making a choice, and at the same time how there’s also power in surrendering to somebody.”

“I need a gangsta / To love me better / Than all the others do / To always forgive me / Ride or die with me / That’s just what gangsters do”, Kehlani bewitchingly coos on the soundtrack cut. Skylar Grey wrote ‘Gangsta’ and the alt-R&B track fits with the theme of the accompanying film with its dark and grungy vibe, the knocking production is also a notable highlight bringing forth an air of sensual malevolence.
