Britney Spears – Mood Ring [Prod. By DJ Mustard]
Britney Spears’ anticipated ‘Glory’ Japanese edition bonus cut ‘Mood Ring’, produced by DJ Mustard, surfaces online in full.
Whilst Britney Spears’ ninth studio album ‘Glory’ has been out for a few weeks now for the majority of the world, opening to positive reviews from critics and fans alike, Japan has had to wait a little longer to hear the project. But there’s a silver lining to the delay as the Japanese edition contains quite possibly the most anticipated cut, the DJ Mustard produced ‘Mood Ring’, from the project serving as a bonus track.
‘Glory’ is a notable return to form for Ms. Spears sounding the most alive she has done in years and boasting a generous 17-tracks in total, but the 34-year old pop veteran saved this special gem solely for the Japanese edition. Why? Who knows, but it needs a release in the future as an official single.
“My love is a mood ring / Up and down emotions / All these mood swings / You know how to read the touch of my skin” Spears sensually coo’s over a brooding, trap-flavored electro-R&B beat helmed by DJ Mustard, with additional help from Twice as Nice and Jon Asher. The throbbing production and buzzing, grinding bassline is reminiscent to Rihanna’s ‘Needed Me’, also produced by Mustard, and services Spears’ alluring delivery meticulously.
“We were writing it for Britney from the beginning…we love how Britney’s gone through all her phases, and hair colors, and literally, like, mood swings. Her whole life is like a mood ring,” songwriter Melanie Fontana, who co-wrote the song with Jon Asher, said in an interview with PopCrush recently. Listen to ‘Mood Ring’ below:
