Britney Spears – Make Me… (ft. G-Eazy) [Single Premiere]
Pop veteran Britney Spears is back with the lead single from her upcoming ninth studio album, ‘Make Me…’ featuring G-Eazy.
It’s no secret that Britney Spears hasn’t had the most successful of years recently (musically wise), the downfall beginning with the release of her overproduced yet oddly vacant eighth studio album ‘Britney Jean’, cursed by being overseen by will.i.am, in addition to the 2015 Iggy Azalea-assisted ‘Pretty Girls’ now denounced to single-only status due to its poor impact on the charts likely the result of its derivativeness and disappointment from fans who know Britney’s potential after such pure pop perfection releases as ‘Blackout’.
It would be foolish, however, to think that Britney Spears should rehash her successful eras as that’s not how things work but on ‘Make Me…’ there are real signs of progression with Spears’ vocals taking centre stage and actually sounding expressive- not the vacant robot of recent years- and she’s also not just relying on the pop production behind her.
“Just want you to make me move / Like it ain’t a choice for you, like you got a job to do / Just want you to raise my roof / Something sensational” Spears coos on the breezy, mid-tempo groove. Burns handles the production on ‘Make Me…’ and crafts something perfect to match Britney’s limited but sensual vocals with a smoky guitar instrumentation and swooping synths all wrapped up in an understated arrangement, much more pleasant listening than say ‘Work Bitch’.
