Alicia Keys – In Common [Single Premiere]
Alicia Keys is gearing up for the release of her forthcoming sixth studio album and gets the ball rolling with her brand new single ‘In Common’.
Written by Keys, Illangelo, Tayla Parks, Billy Walsh and produced by Illangelo, ‘In Common’ thrusts Alicia Keys back into the spotlight with a refreshing overhaul to her sound. The 35-year old R&B veteran is no stranger to success securing a vast number of accolades in her career, including 14 Grammy Awards, but its safe to say her musical style has been consistent with a tried and tested formula so it’s a pleasure to hear her branching out on her new single.
“We got way too much in common / Since I’m being honest with you / Who wants to love somebody like me?” Keys coos on the subdued dance track with a sound akin to what Dawn Richard has perfected for years now and works well for Alicia’s trademark soulful delivery. Illangelo, responsible for hits such as The Weeknd’s ‘The Hills’ and Drake’s ‘Crew Love’, helms the production on ‘In Common’ which draws influences from Latin music and taps into the recent surge of minimalistic beats. “It just came down like the rain, it poured down in this crazy way that I’ve never experienced writing before or creating before in a way that was just so raw, and that’s what you feel when you hear it”, Keys said of her forthcoming sixth studio album in a recent interview with Noisey. “This has definitely been the album where I’ve been able to really write with the most purpose and the most intention. That’s been a very different experience for me, to know what I wanted to talk about and what I wanted to write about before I even started to write it.” Read the interview in full here.
